“…where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars.”

This line from the famous poem by Sir Francis Drake in 1577 was tattooed on my ribs early last year as a reminder to myself to be brave, take risks and follow my dreams; to reinforce the idea that it is only when we leave our comfort zone and experience challenges and hardships do we truly discover who we are and what we are capable of. Almost two years later, I have finally gathered the courage to take my own advice.

My dream since childhood has been to become an interior designer. This coming March, I will be leaving Hong Kong, my hometown, and my career in law to pursue my interior design dream in San Francisco.

I hope you will follow my journey on this blog, share in my trials and tribulations and come along for the ride.

“Disturb us, Lord, when
We are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we have dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wider seas
Where storms will show your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.

We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push into the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love.”
